Protect Duration of Status (D/S): Safeguarding U.S. Competitiveness, Prosperity, and Security

Our Collective Campaign to Maintain U.S. Competitiveness, Prosperity, and Security Through Duration of Status

The longstanding Duration of Status (D/S) policy has been vital to attracting and retaining international talent, supporting U.S. innovation, and reinforcing our national security. The Department of Homeland Security's proposal to alter this policy poses a serious threat to these national interests.

Higher education institutions, economic development leaders, and advocates from across the country are uniting to defend D/S. Below are resources, actions, and tools you can use to help protect this essential policy.

New Guidance for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)

Deadline to Submit Comments: September 29

Our Executive Committee members — NAFSA and the Presidents' Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration— worked with other national associations, including AASCU, to develop coordinated guidance for HEIs preparing to comment on the proposed rule.
